Delayed Mother's Day, or Why I Love My Family

 

Yes, this is exactly what it looks like - more action figures for my mantelpiece! I am such a lucky geek! And now BB has his very own favorite Doctor in the collection. Heh.

This gift had another facet to it, one that makes it just a little weird and important at the same time.

FB got the figures and the plush talking Dalek key chain fobs (!!) from a friend who was selling some of her collection, in order to raise money for her dad's medical care. When I heard that, my heart ached a bit, so I focused on the fact that when Andy, Emily and BB pooled their money to get these wonderful things for me, they weren't just making me squee like an idiot - they were helping this young woman and her family. But I sort of feel like I should be willing to give them back to her for free; it's weird. I feel as if I'm benefiting from someone's sorrow. 

But they are so fantastic, and I hope the young woman can take some comfort from knowing that they went to a very welcoming home.

That's what I hope, along with hoping that her father recovers from whatever medical problems he's having.

Aww, bless, lovie. They get what they need - and have the comfort of knowing these are going to a home that will cherish them. In the end, that is the best outcome for all!

I eventually settled on that attitude myself - and I'm hoping the young woman's dad gets better, and is able to handle the bills (health first, bills second.)

Aren't they, though? I've been having such fun making the squishy Dalek's shout "Exterminate" and then patting them and saying, "Oh, aren't you the cutest little Dalek? Yes you are, you're the sweetest little Dalek!" I like to think it would drive them batty. Heh.

I'm glad my first born told me the provenance of the action figures, even though it's a sad story. I'm sending "get healthy" vibes to the young woman's father, even though I don't know who he is.

This is just an EPIC GIFT! And from an excellent, excellent source. ♥ I get where you're coming from, but you and your family helped her with the buying her stuff, so you are not at all taking advantage… You have a huge heart though ♥

It was indeed an epic gift - I now have one of the Daleks on my keychain, and take an inordinate amount of joy in pressing its "talk" button in public. Probably not very professional of me.
