Life and Music
"Once"
is a lovely, lovely little film. I'm not even sure I should use that phrase, because it reeks of art house condescension, and that is not what this story is about. It's about music and real life, and one amazing young woman, played by Marketa Irglova, and one sweet man, played by Glen Hansard, and how they meet and make music, and make each other's life better, before they go elsewhere. And it goes in directions other films don't usually take, and does things that don't usually happen in the films I see, but do happen in life. Hansard's voice is as sweet as he seems to be. And if Irglova is the truth behind her character, then she is bloody wonderful. You may have seen it already, but if you haven't, pick it up and watch it, and listen, some place where you can relax and take it all in.

It is a lovely, lovely little film. But it's just a whole lot more than that, too.

I haven't seen it yet....i love the song but I haven't seen the film yet. I want to. When I have time. (No pun intended)

I'd been wondering if it was too saccharine and sentimental, but you make it sound like it has multiple redeeming qualities. This is its last week in town, so that puts it higher up on the list than some other films.
