It's Done

(I'd played with the idea of saying "It is finished," but that way lies somewhat liturgical madness.)

The entire thing is a little over 9,800 words long. Not long by many peoples' standards, but by my standards, shored up as they are by glacially slow writing, phrase by phrase, word by word, syllable by fucking syllable, this is probably the longest thing I've written in at least a couple of years. It was amazing; the last page and a half poured out in a way I haven't been used to for some time. Rather refreshing, that.

It's going to be looked over by a couple of my favorite editors, and then I'll break it into three chapters. And put it up. And go, regretfully or not so regretfully, back to actually working for a living.

I get that empty feeling too. It's curiously like having been reading a really good story and finishing it, and then continually looking around for it to go on reading, but you're done. And of course there are always some bits that aren't right and have to be tweaked. Still, getting to the end is a thing.
