I'm listening to MSNBC's coverage of the South Carolina GOP primary, and after listening to interviews with said South Carolina primacy GOP voters, I am reminded yet again, that people who are determined to be stupid, usually triumph in that effort.

Jesus wept. 

(On the other hand, my longest back spasm episode EVAR, appears to have ended. I can sit at my desk again, w00t!!1! I still have my new neck, shoulder and left arm pain, but I can deal with that, at least during the day. Another w00t!!1! )

Still. Jesus fucking wept.

How long did one spasm last?

I had two brief back spasms, once upon a time, and I can't imagine it going on for more than a few seconds. Yikes!

You're about to get tl:dr stuff, or at least TMI. The episodes consist of intermittent spasms. Each one usually lasts 1-2 seconds, which doesn't sound like much. However, the pattern is usually spasm - 30 seconds to 1.5 minutes without the spasm - followed by another spasm. This continues for hours, days, and in this case, two months. Most of the spasms are, as I've sometimes described, like labor pains in my back. Another type of pain connected to the spasms is a knifelike pain that sits on the border of my back and my upper side. It is more constant, and it's the pain that often keeps me up at night.

It's all fun.

Yep. It is. One silver lining is that I come out of it with a fresh understanding of how wonderful the lack of pain is.

I've watched your political landscape, off and on, for years, and I feel for you folks. Margaret Thatcher, and her political children, in the form of the current Tory lineup, and the two to three previous governments, really are horrible, horrible people. (In Thatcher's case, it's past tense, of course, but I couldn't leave her out of my malediction.)

I've heard good things about Community, but never got around to watching it, although I'm familiar with some of the memes that it generated. This one is wonderful. May I make use of it?

I got the preliminary MRI results, which are, of course, in medicalese, but from what I can gather - and I'll have the benefit of my pain doc on the 1st - it appears a number of my upper spinal discs are screwed. We'll see how much they're screwed, and what to do about that.

My pain doc's preliminary message seems to indicate he thinks going for PT should happen first, and if that doesn't work, I'll need to get shots. Since I've tried to get an appointment with my lovely PT lady quickly, and can't get to her until April, (and trying to get another PT person doesn't provide a date any sooner), I think I'm going to tell him that I'm in some now-constant neck/shoulder/arm pain, and I'd like consideration given to providing the shot first. And don't worry, I love all attempts at puns!

Thank you for asking - I don't think I'm getting enough, but that may change, since we're changing some of our eating habits, to include more magnesium-heavy foods like lentils, and dark green leafy vegetables.

Please examine the question of muscle spasms and insufficient magnesium. When I don't have enough, I get charley horses. I know someone else who gets terrible back spasms. So.
