I remember you being hit negatively by Kerblam! I confess, I was remarkably oblivious to the shortcomings of the plot. I'd have to revisit the episode to get a clearer feel for it today. (My obliviousness probably stemmed from how much I love Thirteen. Too often, we try to explain away the bad things those we love do, and I plead guilty wrt this episode.)
But I know the Doctor has always had a mistrust of commercialization and unchecked capitalism. In any of his incarnations, he reacts to those two things in big or small ways, depending on the situation. The Doctor never trusts them, and understands better than anyone how they almost inevitability lead to war.
