So: fandom_stocking 

The reason I haven't been posting over the last few days is that I descended into full on Writing For Stockings mode. I'm a dreadfully slow writer, but I actually managed eight relatively lengthy fics, did a few graphic greetings and ... and I may have time before the slightly-delayed-by-moderator-migraine Friday stocking reveal to do more. I am, for a wonder, happy!

Oh, I'm so glad it made it to you (yours made it a little quicker, I think, which is not surprising, given that we live in what is officially the third worst postal region in the country, which means sending or receiving mail is always an ... adventure ....

:loL: I mean, I'm sorry for the poor Mod, but I don't think fandom stocking has ever gone live when it was supposed to! So I got stuff up yesterday - with the confident expectation that the mod would suddenly claim a rl disaster and disappear, estimating that we might get reveals by the weekend if we were very lucky. And lo!

I have a theory about that, based on how my body responds to a)stress and b)deadlines. When stress causes deadlines, or deadlines cause stress (either way in my life at least), my body goes into a very bad mode indeed, with nausea and headaches topping the list of what happens to me.

I think that, despite her best efforts on the comm's behalf, this happens to her. (This excepts the one year when she had to live several days without power ... I know where she lives, and read the Canadian news that week and, sure enough, the province where she lives was caught in a multi-day power outage. In the middle of winter ... that one must have been murder.)

ANYhow (goodness, I do go on) I really do feel for her. I know she asked for volunteer help and is effusively thankful for the folks who answer the call, but perhaps more of us need to help out (and by "more of us" I am looking squarely at myself.)

But having a few extra days to stuff stockings? Yes, it does feel good!

Oh, I wasn't suggesting for a moment that she was making it up! I know what you mean, too, and I was wondering that. And no one could do anything about the power surges. (I'd just give some of the helpers full modly powers so they could do the reveals if needed (it's just a technical process) - but she may feel the need to be around in case of complaints or other issues, I suppose, and it's her business, indeed. I just can't help being amused by the inevitable annual delay.)

No worries there. I was pretty sure that you'd understand the fun of stress and ailments, and you're one of the few people I know who could express amusement at the almost certain deadline extension without being judgmental in the least. I just feel for her because I can imagine her waking up on the morning of the reveal, realizing that the migraine has settled in with evil strength, and thinking "Oh my god, everyone's gonna HATE me ...."

(I think you're right that she may feel the need to do trouble-shooting; the last couple of years there have been a few .... well, not precisely trollish, but certainly some less than completely pleasant things popping up in stockings, and I imagine she wants to be there to help ferret out any new iterations of such unpleasantry.)

When you're referring to the "done folder" are you referring to your own personal folder of stockings you want to fill, or that Gdocs spreadsheet that the mod opened up a week or so ago, with the help of someone who created it? I'm still not quite sure how that one works.

I have a personal folder as well; although I generally love Gdocs (all my fic writing is done via that), I really couldn't figure out the spread sheet. I put it down to too much holiday chocolate in my diet, making my brain very chocolatey slow.

Thanks ... although, in the interests of transparency and honesty I have to note that, for me, "lengthy" means anything over 1,000 words. I write at a glacial pace, as I mentioned to a_phoenixdragon above. It doesn't help that I usually just start with a first sentence - any sentence, the first sentence that spurts from my fingertips - and then need to look at that sentence and figure outwhereit will go from there. It is not, I assure you, the most efficient way to create anything ... sigh ... but yes, I'm still kind of chuffed.
