My best friend had his birthday today. He's officially a senior citizen now, with aches and pains. And oh how I wish I could take those aches and pains from him.
But he is also possibly the smartest person I've ever met, and the kindest, most patient man I've ever known. He has taught me what little I know about patience, and has reminded me to be kind in turn. He introduced me to jazz, a friendship I initially shied from, but it became one of the best musical friendships I've ever had (we're sitting here listening to Coltrane as I type ). He also introduced me to rock and roll, and that was glorious, too.
We share a love of the printed world, of SF, of democracy, of exploring the universe through conversation, and so much more.
He is father, lover, confidante, master of wildly sideways humor (just look at those eyes!), and the rock in my life. I am so lucky to be able to celebrate his birthday with him each year. Happy Birthday,![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
