Thinkful Connections, Etc.

Excuse the completely ungrammatical title. I don't have a lot to say about myself right now, but I thought I'd link to a couple of interesting articles, which might make reading this post more worthwhile.

First, this report from the Economic Policy Institute, on excessive CEO pay. I'm still reading through it; my comprehension capacity, never all that encompassing, is less than it has been. But even the summary is depressing. I'm looking forward to reading through to what EPI analysts and specialists believe might be a solution to this kind of whopping inequality.

The story of how employees at a Pennsylvania petrochemical plant were given the choice of losing pay or attending a Trump rally angers me because of the attitude of some union officers there; they didn't fight the company's order as far as I can tell, even supporting the visit, saying anything (or anyone, apparently) who could bring jobs to the area was A-ok with them. It's the kind of short-sighted worldview some unions share with corporations, and it makes me want to weep. The story says many workers were fine with attending - and that's just fine; but forcing those who may have been unwilling to choose between their freedom to choose, and pay, should have been opposed vigorously by the union.

Other things, other things ... I've gotten more than 2,000 words into my Donna-Thirteen-Doctor's Companion Network, and have realized that it's going to be fairly long. Given my laggardly writing patterns, this may take months. I hope not, but I also want to be able to get back into Donna's universe, to find her head space and her voice, to do this right. I also need to flesh out Shaun, her husband, so that he's more than a cardboard cutout.

I've begun to seriously watch my eating habits, now that my increasing weight has triggered a similarly increasing problem with gerd (gastroesophageal reflux disease, for those unfamiliar with it.) And I'm going to go, as much as possible, with the oldest weight-loss tool in the book: counting calories, and making sure the calories I ingest are useful and healthy ones, not empty. I'm using a website/app to do it, and what I've learned in just a few days lets me know how much I've overeaten on a daily basis. My goal is just to lose enough weight that my gerd problems abate - and also to learn how to eat differently on a permanent basis. Wish me luck as I try to change my eating habits.

Huh. For having little to say, I've done so at length. Have a good week!
