My maternal grandparents used to live in an apartment on Lake Shore Drive (2800, IIRC), near Diversey, so I became very familiar with that area. (Also the song, from WFMT's Midnight Special.) The building went condo after they'd been there maybe ten years, and they decided not to buy in -- a decision I think they later regretted.
I hadn't known about the proposed renaming. Like you, I approve of it, though I feel a pang for lost memories.
