A Couple of Things Make a List

1) It's snowing outside and, after I've had my first cup of coffee, dried my hair (just got out of the shower), and completed this post - whatever it may turn out to be - I have to gird my loins and wield my shovel at the snowflake horde. There are currently only two or three unit owners who undertake the job and I unwisely volunteered to be one of them. Ah well; it's a tad easier than wrestling with the lawn mower.

EDIT, as of Sunday evening; I went out and shoveled our courtyard and part of the sidewalk on one side of the building. I couldn't do as much as I wanted to, and later in the day the temperature rose just enough to melt the remaining ice and snow from the areas I'd tackled. But it doesn't erase the necessity of shoveling. And another unit owner came out and did some shoveling as well. I was reminded that we have one of our quarterly  unit owners' meetings tomorrow night. Not something I'm looking forward to, but again, something that needs to be done. Sigh. I guess I'd better read the minutes from the last meeting. Sigh, again.

2) Bob and I went last night to see our friend, Doctor Gonzo, and well more than a dozen other theatrically-minded lawyers, in the annual Chicago Bar Association Bar Show. It's been held for 101 years as a stage outing for those previously mentioned theatrically-minded lawyers, a chance for them to sing and dance, emote and generally have a good time. The writing has generally been a bit spotty although it's also been more than occasionally brilliantly funny; the dance numbers have generally been high school level. But this year, thanks to a new co-head writer and some newcomers in the cast, it came together with no weaknesses. The writing was almost pro-level, the dance numbers were choreographed by an attorney who's won a Jeff award for her choreography - I'm not a professional theater critic, but I can see it was truly enjoyable from start to finish.

But last night, for the first time, two of the songs were dead serious. The first was sung by a cast member playing Kamala Harris. Within the first 15 seconds, I was crying, because the song told little girls "I see you. We'll keep fighting for you. Don't give up." The second song, sung by her and one of the cast members playing Liz Cheney, was almost as serious, and I found myself tearing up again. But that first song - when the show was over and I talked to Gonzo, she told me that it had had the same effect on audience members there for the other two or three shows. Bob said, when we got back home, "our Chicago lawyers are bright blue Democrats. That's how we roll; liberal and ready to fight." Yep. Don't fuck with Chicago, MAGAts.

I haven't gotten done much of what I wanted to. But each day I manage to do something, and I suppose that's a positive. And so I get ready for Monday morning. (By watching "Deadpool and Wolverine," which Bob has wanted to watch for some time. I'm not that enamored of the idea, but he bows to a lot of my entertainment wishes, and this won't hurt me. At least I don't think so. I do get some amusement out of the idea that nice, friendly Canadian like Ryan Reynolds can play a foul-mouthed psycopath. Oh, Canada ....
