Dept. of Trying It Over Here
Wednesday, 27 July 2011 01:19 pmVacation From LJ
I'd been planning to post this over at LJ. For two and a half days, I'd been planning to do so. But LJ posting is currently SNAFU'd so I thought I'd try something novel; making use of the space I have here.
My original post (slightly amended at this point) began like this:
Because I'm feeling poorly, both physically and mentally, I'm going to post a few things that make me feel good, rather than kvetching about the one or two things that are bloody pains in the ass.
- The week started with a slight lightening of the darkness in Norway, as the death toll was revised downward, and we learned the story of a man who rescued a great many of the survivors escaping Utoeya Island.
- By Friday, the last of our son's items should be removed from what will soon become our new office. That day, all the Health Demiurges willing, we'll rent a carpet cleaner, scrub the carpet in the room, and start moving things in. We get two rooms out of it; a new office and a (finally!) dining room where we can actually, you know, dine. w00t!!1!
- I found a good home for the 28 or so "Dark Shadows" tapes (What!?!) that have been taking up space in our basement file cabinet for a long, long time. The new owner - a very happy lady - came around with her shopping cart and took them away Tuesday, and I celebrated in my head.
- And finally, the video below, which I first viewed at the page of the redoubtable
dameruth . I know most of y'all have probably seen it, but I just had to put it in because it brings a smile to my face and a lump to my throat when I watch it. Why? Because I think it makes an excellent statement of and by My Tribe (yes cosplayers are part of My Tribe.) It's done with panache, by fans who are confident in their fannish identity — indeed proud of it. Over here, should you care to watch it, is a video of another amateur cosplaying group lip-synching to the same song. It's a much more amateur production; it's ragged, roughly edited and goes on at perhaps a bit too much length (hey, just like us!) but it brought the same smile and lump to my throat. Perhaps more, in an odd way.
