 We Raised Him Right

Presented, for your enjoyment - my First Born's second tattoo, acquired last weekend at C2E2 in Chicago (which he went to and didn't even invite me, his mother, the ungrateful whelp.) It's on the back of his leg, and it's actually more gorgeous in real life. I am so jealous. But I'm also proud of the fact that my son loves Doctor Who enough to make it a permanent part of him.

Thank you, on his behalf and mine. His dad is also a Who fan, with a slight tilt towards Old School but a healthy love of the New as well, so First Born gets his taste from both sides of the tree!

Your extreme pride in this makes me very happy! I love it when fandom is passed along the generations.

Passing it from generation to generation makes it clear that fandom isn't a fad, or an ephemeral thing, but a valid community, with history and traditions of its own.

Plus it's great to be able to say "Fezzes are cool," and know that your kid gets it.

(Actually, when I come to think of it, I think it's valid to say that generational gaps aren't quite as broad in fannish families, because of the shared love of something that transcends generations.)

Isn't it just? (Actually, it actually was shiny, because FB was still putting ointment on the relatively tender skin; we had to take waaaay too many pictures before we were able to get one in which the flash and the shiny-wet ointment didn't result in problems.)

That's gorgeous! I've seen a lot of TARDIS tattoos, but this one is hands down the classiest. :)

You're right. I think it helps a lot that he got it done in black, very much like the so-called "tribal" tattoo designs.

Yeah, the solid black is great. It's subtle enough that you don't immediately go, "Oh, fandom tattoo," but when you notice it, it's clear enough that it's a TARDIS to give a Doctor Who fan a smile.
