What would make you leave a fandom, or prevent you from getting into it in the first place?:
I’m not sure. If I haven’t left Who fandom, which can apparently be a nest of vipers, or general SFF, which also can be a nest of vipers, I can’t imagine much that would chase me out of any fandom. (I stipulate that both fandoms are huge, which allows me to stay happy within my small circle of non-vipery friends, so there’s that.)
I suppose any fandom that has a large and defensible reputation as toxic to any group of humans — women, BIPOC, LGBTQ+ — wouldn’t retain my interest in joining. Or fandoms that suddenly transform in that manner. That would be it.
