Weather Watching 

Sitting in a coffee shop in Evanston, drinking chocolatey coffee, eating something that's waaaay too chocolatey, and watching the storm that caused officials to evacuate Lollapalooza downtown The lightning bolts are impressive and the constantly pealing thunder is both unsettling and wonderfully reassuring  We're really not in charge are we? As I said .. unsettling, yet reassuring

I loooooooooove weather for just this reason. It just . . . puts you in your place. There's something both reassuring and invigorating about that.

Also variety. I could never live somewhere where the weather was the same all the time.

It does indeed put you in your place, even a comparatively little storm like this one. It doesn't begin to describe the monstrous weather upheavals like earthquakes, tsunamis, etc.

And one of the reasons I'm glad that my long-ago pilgrimage from Nova Scotia to L.A. was permanently interrupted by Chicago is Chicago's diversity of weather. Near non-stop sun and smog* ultimately would have made me just that little bit crazier.


* and, yes, that last is just for effect, since I know L.A.'s smog problem is much less than it once was.

We did, but the worst of it went around us. I understand they had a downburst somewhere in the area that was so damaging, the residents thought it must have been a tornado, but here we just got a little rain. Which we'll sure take at this point. :-)

If it's any consolation, the storm was short. It did fry our router, though; so we're off to the computer store to get a new one. (I'm typing this from BB's 'puter, which is hardwired into our cable service, lucky him.) Good luck with your weather watch!

Lot of storms here, too...love the electric feeling of them and oddly, though they make me feel small, I am unafraid. So yeah. What you said...

Yeah, I love storms; one of the things I'm liking more about them these days is that their violence doesn't come with biases or axes to grind. They're beautiful and neutral. Good things, says the woman who's tired of dealing with people today.

I've always loved thunderstorms (although I think that one sounds a bit extreme). They are quite rare in my hometown, so I always turn on my childlike wonder when we do get them. Of course, now I'm in SE Asia and it's rainy season, so we often get more than one a week - but I still haven't gotten tired of them!

Oh, aye, I imagine monsoon season would provide you a tremendous number of thunderstorms. And I guess that it's statistically possible to get tired of them ... but I'm not sure I could, even then!
