 Because Really .. WTF?

1. My brother will have having quintuple bypass surgery Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday. I'm still painfully in the dark by my lights - although not by my little brother's - and wish I could just get the fuck up there. Can't, so I'll pray down here. I've talked to Mum a bit, as well. 

2. I got into this here Intarwebz fandom and far more than that, through a site called Television Without Pity. That was back in 2006. I learned ... so much from the people I met there, gained so much from them, learned about myself. It's shutting down next week.  I'll write about that more later, when I'm not a scattered mess. It seems so odd that that is weighing on my mind as much as Mac's bypass surgery. The mind does weird things, doesn't it? Weird fucking things. And yes, the word "fuck" seems to be the only one I can think of using.

I'm kinda torn up about TWoP. And I don't think I've actually visited the site in over a year. But like you . . . it's a lot of history. I actually thought about you when I heard about it. Who will share my pain about this? Well, my sister, and Kaffyr.

Thanks - I tried to arrange a way to get up there in time for his surgery (I'm in Chiccago, he's in Nova Scotia) but despite some help from my amazing immediate boss and a very kind friend, it's not happening. So on Monday, which is the day of the surgery, I'll just hang by the phone and worry a lot.

I'm kinda torn up about TWoP. Who will share my pain about this? Well, my sister, and Kaffyr.

Oh, yeah, definitely. If I hadn't discovered TWoP, I wouldn't have found LJ and the online fandom I inhabit (and which keeps me sane in many ways). And I have so many fond memories of it. Some weird ones, too, but definitely I loved it at one time, and I'm still extraordinarily fond of it. And the fact that they're taking everything down (it'll be saved in some cache, but not publicly; I'm not even sure about the Way Back Machine having access to it) is even sadder. I'm spending part of my day copying and pasting recaps I loved, and possibly even the wonderful comment thread for LINDA, the Meet Market in the TARDIS thread where I met so many people.

Damn. REALLY? That's just...really? They are shutting it down? *Blinks* I can see why the mind chose this to focus on though. Sometimes it is easier to think on something that SEEMS 'less' (though it isn't - tis hurtful, but in a different way), other than gnash itself to death on something you cannot control.

Quintuple? Quintuple! I'm trying to remember if I've ever even heard of a quintuple bypass. It's starting to sound like they'll be weaving a folk dance pattern around the ins and outs of his heart. "Next it's an allemande left..."

For distraction, I invite you to consider other folk dance steps as descriptors of the steps involved in bypass surgery. Basket, dip, dive, flutter wheel...just so long as they stay away from the pot hooks.

I am as sure as one can be in these situations that the surgery will go very well. My brother found out that the team handling his case are the go-to team for cases in which Americans (!) come to Canada to get heart surgery (!!!) including heart transplants ... so much for terrible Canadian socialized medicine. Heh.

I, too, am sad about TWoP. I first met you there, back where you were still a college student discovering the field that would become part of your life - and so much has happened since then. If you've dropped back in to LINDA, you'll see at least a couple of names that you haven't seen forever. And we're looking for a new place to meet up.

Yeah, it's amazing to think how much has changed since the Ninth Doctor's TV run and our first online conversations.
I will definitely check back to see what the LINDA folks have been discussing as an alternative place to hang out. That's the last meet market I care about at all on TWoP!

I had no idea TWOP was shutting down. I'm fairly gutted. I go there for reactions to everything from movies to the Olympics. How will we survive without the snark? The internet will be a poorer place without it. : (

Whups, sorry, missed your post because last week I had a brain like a colander; yeah, TWoP was a big part of my entering online fandom back in 2006, and it and the friends I found through it really mean a lot to me.

I've moved over to the new television site run by Glark, Sars and Wing-Chung, the folks who started TWoP, and a lot of TWoPers have done the same, but since the TWoP forums are open until May 31, there's a lot of renewed activity there as well. Some of us were joking that we wanted to post as much as possible over the next little while to make it to stalker level before they disappear. Heh.
