I watched that recently, having never watched FMA, because I was informed it was better. Later had to go back and watch FMA. They both have their merits, though I think I prefer plain FMA.
We watched the original FMA first and it was pretty much a masterpiece. It kept us from watching FMA:B, because when we watched the first couple of episodes, it seemed like they were racing through everything that had been so lovingly examined at length in the first series. But based on what folks had been saying, I convinced BB to start watching FMA:B again.
As we rewatched the episodes we'd seen before, I started appreciating them, seeing that they were handling the story in a far different way. (I think FMA:B is supposed to hew closer to the original manga? Not sure.) So when we got past the point at which it could roughly have been considered to parallel the first series, and took off on its own, branching decidedly in characters and plot from its predecessor, it became an incredible ride. it examined different things, was far more political and full of world-building, gave more agency to Al, took a look at humanity in a different way than the original series did.
this point, I have to call it, too, pretty much a masterpiece. The two are like a delicious apple and a delicious orange in my mind.
Yeah- FMA:B is the one that follows the entire manga plotline because the mangaka had finished the series by then. FMA otoh was made while she hadn't finished the story- so the animation crew collaborated with her over how to handle FMA.
Hello, my dear - I have to head out to the pharmacy to get some things, and I'll try to give you a call later today, if there's a good time for you. I have (WARNING, incoming TMI!) a very, very sore mouth, which means it'll probably be a short conversation, but I've been wanting to chat with you as well. ♥
