No. Just ... No.

Do not do this to your cat, people. You have the right to decide what you want to eat, ethically, morally, spiritually, whatever.

You don't have the right to decide for another frakkin' species, FFS.

Not owning a carnivorous pet is totally an option if your objections are so strong.

But they want to have their cat and eat vegetables too! (okay, I was trying for a pun on "have their cake and eat it too" but I don't think it worked...)

I'm reminded of the veggiehound in Shirley Valentine.

If you end up liking that movie, you'll probably also like the Italian movie, "Bead and Tulips" which is on a similar theme.

Exactly.

And for crying out loud, in these days of the internet, there's no excuse for not doing research into proper diets for various animals. Including humans and cats.

I had a vegan brother-in-law with a vegan dog. It was a sad situation.

Seriously. Obligate carnivores, people. It's bad enough that almost all the dry pet food that's available has grain in it (totally unnecessary, for both dogs and cats), but this??? Boggles the mind.

Sheer lunacy. That's always been my first thought on this ridiculous issue, and I'm afraid that's unlikely to change.

*shudders* If one can't stomach to give an animal what it needs, then I think one shouldn't have a carnivore. Rabbits makes good pets too, after all. In the long run a cat's system doesn't fare well with a vegan diet.

I've heard of people who do things like this, and it's horrible. Anyone who wants a vegan pet should get a bird or a rabbit.

The difference between people and other animals, which should be blindingly obvious to anyone with half a brain, is that we have the capacity to make decisions about what we eat. Other animals don't, and it's the height of cruelty to impose our own moral code on those creatures.

I once saw a blue jay cannibalize a baby bird in Boston. I was walking to work from the T stop, and the headless corpse of a chick fell to the sidewalk right at my feet. I looked up and around, expecting a crow or a hawk; instead I saw a large and irate-looking blue jay perched up on a window box. I kept walking, looked back, and watched it swoop down to pick up its breakfast.

Nature is full of strange things, some of which we probably won't like, and we need to learn to deal with it.

I agree with everyone who says if a person can't cope with a carnivorous pet then get a vegetarian one. Cats have evolved to be meat eaters!

People like this make me despair. I've always tried to treat my 'pets' like they're family. And they can't speak for themselves and let us know what they need, what they feel - so one must be extra careful in how we interact with them and the decisions we make for them. Terrible thinking like this woman's makes me pissed off because it reeks of priviledge and stupidity. Her cat can't argue back. Her cat can't tell her what a bad idea this is, how it can kill an animal not made for such a diet. I mean, seriously - how would she like to have her life dictated without so much as one iota of consideration for her own needs and wants? MEH.

I adore that icon myself. So glad I gakked it, lol!!

People call me crazy.

Vegans do enough truly terrible things to their own biology without interfering with what nature intended for the non-sentients of the world. So, yay, several points for not hurting any living thing to have a cheese sandwich, but minus five hundred for the pet you claim to love disintegrating right in front of you.

Someone who thinks that cats should be vegans shouldn't have cats (or any other animal that is a carnivore).
