I am watching a livestream of Eurovision 2016. 

Also - Australia is part of Eurovision ... how did it drift to the Continent?

Eurovision let Australia in last year to celebrate 60 years of Eurovision. Then they allowed Australia to come back this year.

Why they were invited to Eurovision in the first place, I have no clue.

Perhaps Eurovision felt guilty; I mean, you invite someone to the big party once and then don't let them come back the next year, you're pretty much of a Continental Cad.

Australia did pretty darned well - leading the pack up until the last set of votes came in. Then they slipped to second. That's got to have hurt, but since they were apparently only in their second year of participation, I think a second place finish was pretty darned good. (Maybe that's just the Canadian in me....)

I have, of course, heard about The Madness That is Eurovision, and I've seen 1 or 2 acts via YouTube in the past - but seeing the whole thing as it happened was something else again. Even though we didn't get the Brit announcers, we did get some pretty fabulous American announcers.

Yes, I noticed that, as well as the fact that Israel has apparently won several times. Another case of Continental drift, obviously. Heh.
