There are no words to describe my disappointment that Donald Trump managed to hold it together by the minimal standards to which we hold him. I was ready for the meltdown, baby.

I'm torn; I had hoped for that as well - but I was seriously afraid that the man was going to melt down violently, and I didn't want that to happen.

Did you see that Late Show episode where everyone was like ''omg Stephen Colbert will troll him to shit! It will be glorious! He will go off!'' which ended up being a total letdown because he acted all low-key and breezy? He might be an utter plum but he knows what both sides of the audience expect, and I don't think he's going to give the lefties the epic O'Reilly meltdown that they'd love

Not watching, eh? I felt I had to, largely because I must admit to missing a lot of the first one. It's bizarre - but sadly, that's not surprising, because the political landscape has, first slowly, then not-so-slowly, been becoming steadily more bizarre for some time now.

I didn't watch because I'd had such a good weekend and selfishly didn't want to ruin it. It was funny to watch all the WTF? live tweets as they rolled in. The post-debate analysis has been all over the place, with the consensus seeming to be that the Donald has dug himself into an even deeper hole.

Indeed. Some of the analysis I heard on MSNBC, of all places, was completely unhinged as far as I'm concerned. I'm specifically talking about Chris Matthews, who kept going on about how Trump did better than expected, and that Clinton looked uncertain (or unsure, not sure I can recollect the actual word he used). I'm sitting in my chair thinking, "WTF? Matthews, you have brain glitch. You didn't see the same thing I saw." There was only one time when Clinton appeared to have less than perfect control over her surroundings, and that was when people asked her about saying one thing to investors and another publicly. She answered with a reference to Abraham Lincoln; although I ultimately understood what she was saying, it was horribly meandering.

I know people are gonna go after Clinton for the things she DIDN'T fire back on, but really...there was SO MUCH going on in every bit of word-salad uttered, she'd have to take three days to dismantle his bullshit, set it straight and give forth her own answers. Word salad is so very true. And it's being used so much by so many about one person in this race. Only one. Even Gary Johnson speaks more clearly.

I was following the live-blog at DKoS during the debate, so I'm sure I didn't miss much...but I'm still uber pissed over it.

Ah well...DKoS people noticed a lot of what I was seeing (the creepy following her around) and they've kept the polls and talking heads updated for me. Though the Twitter-captures were some of the best! Ye gods...what a way to run a railroad.

UGH...CNN is all 'they're hurling insults!!!' ummm...that has been the rhetoric from the get-go (I guess it sells news??) but honestly, HE hurls insults, she states facts. How are facts insults????Really???

Also heard that Family!Trump tried to do what she did (hang out and talk with people....AFTER he saw HER doing that. It was unsuccessful. He and family left.)

My grandmother had a very bad medical patch after her husband died. She was hospitalized for two months for shortness of breath of indeterminate cause. Incredibly good care. Kind, careful nurses who understood that at least part of her medical condition was a physical manifestation of grief, and treated they physical and emotional with compassion and really good care. She was living in Nova Scotia at the time, and so she was not bankrupted by it; she was not charged a red cent. She went on to live another fifteen years, to my mother's delight and intense aggravation.

I've forgotten if I knew that you had family that lived in N.S. at any time - but, yes, that's where my mum lived, and where she had excellent care. (She had one individual doctor that I could cheerfully strangle, but he was awful, not the system.)

If you go to Clark's Harbor Island, every third person has the surname Nickerson, and all of them are kin to me. All my grandparents, except for my grandmother mentioned above, were from Nova Scotia. There's a ton of us all in the Maritimes and New England. Fisherman and preachers, mostly.

Nickerson ... yes, there are Nickersons up and down the Fundy coast, and - looking at where Clark's Harbour is, on Cape Sable Island, I see that they must have come from the point where the Fundy shore gives way to the Atlantic shore. There weren't as many Nickersons in the Annapolis Valley, but there were a few. And fishermen, yeah, that makes sense.

That debate was so bizarre I could only watch maybe forty-five minutes of it. It's clear that Trump thinks this entire election is a joke and he'll get whatever he wants because he's rich.

I fully agree with the last part of your comment. I'm not sure, however, that he actually thinks the election is a joke. I'm truly not sure I can guess what's going on in his head, which frightens me, because I'm normally reasonably able to figure what political people are going to do in the field. He's such a horribly unknown, and purely horrible, figure, that he's become the ultimate wild card. And that's scary as hell.
