Sunday, 16 October 2016 05:29 pmHow To Make The Coming Week Better
Actually, I don't have a recipe for making the coming week better, so that's a rather misleading headline. But I want to make the week better. So, lack of recipe notwithstanding, how do I do it?
Plan to do a good job on every story I write, but don't get trapped by my fears of not doing a good job. After all, on Friday, I wrote a feature the way I used to - with confidence and focus. If I did it once, I can do it again.
Look forward to the wedding reception of Sarah, the daughter of my heart, and her husband, Christian. They got married last week, and honeymooned in New Orleans, but are holding the reception as a party for all of their friends. I am so glad to see her happy, with someone she loves, as likes.
Help out the Chicago Cubs by not watching their National League Pennant game with the Los Angeles Dodgers tonight. Or any night, actually. It's worked so far. Shush, magical thinking does so work....
Concentrate on some of the good things that I've gotten done this weekend. For instance, I've set up a shared document with BB that not only sets up menus for the coming week, but has a list of what we have available in our freezer, fridge, cupboards and larder. This will, I hope, cut down on the amount of food we waste by forgetting it's there, and having it go out of date, or going bad in the back of the refrigerator. We can't afford that. I don't know if this will stick, but it's worth a try.
Write some old-fashioned thank you notes to some of the folks I got to visit while in Nova Scotia. I've been meaning to do it since we got back, and I think sending them out now will still be timely.
Restart my exercises, which I've neglected for the past two weeks.
And get a good night's rest tonight.
Yeah, that's a start, right?

Date: Monday, 17 October 2016 11:22 pm (UTC)Indeed; not quite "misery loves company," more like "misery likes knowing it's not alone in the world."
"Mixed" is far and away better than, "Well, hell. I'm dead."
And I now have another lovely word in my lexicon; besom. Thanks!

Date: Monday, 17 October 2016 07:41 pm (UTC)I could worry that not watching last night's game was a factor in the Cubs' loss, but I have no idea what I'm going to do on Tuesday. Besides, I didn't watch many of the Giants games, and so who knows? I only wish that my individual efforts could affect the luck and efforts of a bunch of professionals on the field.

Date: Monday, 17 October 2016 09:03 pm (UTC)Indeed. All talk of magical thinking notwithstanding, I really don't watch the games because they're too intense for me to deal with. I jump up and down, yell at the screen, feel elation and depression in lightning swift changes ... and it's just not good for blood pressure.

Date: Monday, 17 October 2016 08:08 pm (UTC)Bummer about the Cubs. I still remember the Sox losing the AL to the Yankees in 2003 (when they were thisclose to winning), and it was like a funeral in Boston the next day. It did make the next year all the sweeter, but oh, man. October 2003 was a rough month. : (

Date: Thursday, 20 October 2016 03:01 pm (UTC)We've gotten very spoiled in Boston with all our sports victories over the past 15 years. There's a company that does humorous apparel and novelty items--my brother-in-law works for a printing company, and he gets loads of these things for nothing. I have them all over my condo, and have given them as gifts to friends. You can see them here:

Pretty amusing!

Date: Thursday, 20 October 2016 04:53 pm (UTC)I can't tell you how jealous we were in Cubs Land when the Red Sox, and then the White Sox down south in Our Fair City. At least the Cubs won last night, so the Pennant series is tied 2-2. If we can win the next one when we're home, we'll be one win away from history. But we've been there before....
