But the title of the story is "The Last Pennant before Armageddon." They don't even talk about the other thing -- except the spirit of Al Capone, but everyone shushes him.

I watched the game at [livejournal.com profile] lydy's place; they have FS1 on their cable plan. With much texting to various people in lieu of being able to watch with fellow Cubs fans.

Most of the stories in The Thrill of the Grass (which is where I read it) are worth reading, but TLPBA is of course the one that had most resonance for me.

By W.P. Kinsella, who wrote Shoeless Joe/Field of Dreams, for anyone else who would otherwise have to google.

I had my mother send me a photo of the Tribune front page. I wanted to see if they actually used the second-coming-of-Christ font size. The only reason they didn't is because instead they used a photo that covered most of the page.

Yay! Lots of Sox fans are probably pulling for the Cubs. They feel the fans' pain. So happy!

You're talking about the Red Sox, right? Yeah, that's altogether possible.

*Raises hand.* Born and raised Red Sox fan. I drove my father out to the cemetery when they finally won the World Series so that he could tell his father who'd lived and died without seeing them win one they finally pulled it off. I'm pulling for the Cubs all the way.

Interestingly enough, Theo Epstein, who helped build the Red Sox teams that won their most recent victories, is the man behind the Cubs resurgence.

I saw that in some of the articles I looked at. Not sure if two different teams is enough to say the man has a magic touch, but it sure is enough to make a lot of people happy.
