I was w00t!!1!-ing around the place for quite some time. I was also disappointed that I couldn't surprise either my FB or someone I saw this afternoon with the news. They'd already heard. I need to surprise someone, but by now, that's undoubtedly impossible.
I've been trying to be only cautiously hopeful since it was announced that Chris Chibnall would be taking over from The Moff when he left, I liked Chris' work on Torchwood before he left it to RTD, but this makes me feel a lot better about his being the new showrunner. His choice for his first Doctor gives me a lot of hope for things to come.
inorite? I was less than impressed with a couple of things Chibnall did for Torchwood (Cybervixen, anybody?), but then I saw a couple of shows he headed (can't remember what they were, now - and I was happily surprised. So, yeah, I've got a lot of hope for next season.
I haven't watched Broadchurch, largely because (whisper it) I'm not that fond of Tennant's acting tics, nor have I seen any of the other things she's been in, but I'm willing to trust what I'm hearing about her acting chops.
*Drops voics* As someone who also isn't terribly fond of some of Tennant's acting choices, Broadchurch is fantastic and Tennant is surprisingly bearable when he is 1. not putting on a fake accent, 2. playing a very subdued character who doesn't do much gurning.
First - glad to know I'm not the only one in re: Tennant. I have seen him do things in a more subdued manner, and that's when I can deal with him. That was always the case in Who as well, where his quieter scenes were so much more affecting than the Shouty McShoutypants scenes.
Second? I love that you know what "gurning" is. (Orthographic drift; when I learned the term, it was spelled "girn.")
I am going to miss Twelve awfully, but this makes up for a great deal, and I know I'll grow to love her. I'm eager to see how her relationship with the TARDIS might grow or change.
