Yes. Yes, I am. And I am thinking of making Italian meatballs, with which to feed my Best Beloved and Offspring and Future Daughter in Law. That may not come to pass, but I am feeling unusually kitcheney today, and I shouldn't waste it.
I ended up making the meatballs on Monday night, which was just as well. And for me, my pantry is so overstocked with easy to use canned goods - courtesy of my apparent belief that the apocalypse is just around the corner and thus requires me to stockpile in far more bulk than a two-person household actually needs - that I always have something on which I can fall back. Although my husband is not at all fond of curried baked beans ....

Here you go: the caveat is that I constantly adjust as I make these, so they're never quite the same cookie. I generally end up putting more sugar in, because I'm a sugar addict, and also I put in far, far more spices (like 1T each of powdered ginger and cinnamon.) Sometimes I ditch the cloves and go for mace ... it's all what you like.
OLD-FASHIONED MOLASSES COOKIES
Heat oven to 350F, grease about 4 cookie sheets.
3/4 C butter or shortening (I use a mix of shortening and butter substitute, which bakes up just fine.) 3/4 C sugar 2 eggs 3/4 C molasses (unsulphured) 3/4 C buttermilk (but plain yogurt works just fine if you have no buttermilk. I used it today.) 3 3/4 C flour 1.5 t baking soda 1.5 t each cinnamon and ginger 1/4 t cloves 3/8 t salt (or to your taste.) 3/4 C raisins (the recipe says to chop them. I say, 'Why on earth?')
1. Beat (or melt) butter/shortening, then add sugar, egg, and molasses. 2. Sift all the dry ingredients together. 3. Add the dry ingredients and the buttermilk/yogurt to the molasses mixture in thirds while beating and mixing. 4. Add the raisins and mix in thoroughly. 5. Use two spoons to drop the cookie dough onto the cookie trays. 6. Bake 8-12 minutes (I usually set it on 11 minutes, then check them. Each oven's different.)
I'm kind of up to my ears in zucchini and cherry tomatoes from the garden right now, but will definitely give the recipe a try at some point. Thanks again!
Zucchini and cherry tomatoes ... mmmmmmm! (I saw your recipe for honey-roasted tomatoes. I'm a garlic and tomatoes type of person, or a eat it raw with salt and pepper person, but it was an intriguing recipe.)
There are far fewer cookies at this point, but BB has put them away, so I can avoid making myself sick. Heh. (If you're interested in the recipe, I gave it to misbegotten, above.)

(Feel free to try the recipe, which is up in my reply to misbegotten, above; it can be cut down by a quarter, or by a half, although the results will be even more cakelike than they already are, because you really can't cut an egg in half. When I've scaled down, the amount of egg stays the same, and the resulting cookies are extremely rich.)
The number sounds impressive (hence my silliness), but they're actually drop cookies and so you can make them as small as you want. I can put 20 or 25 cookies on one cookie sheet, so it goes fairly quickly.
I was happy with myself, though, since my depression had kept me out of the kitchen for some time, other than pouring myself bowls of cereal or unpacking take-out.

I am feeling very not kitcheny as it is hell month at work, but for these times God gave us the freezer section at Trader Joe's.

They really don't have to have the cookies. Maybe they can take them home and give them to someone else?
