... and someone in my building has just put their Christmas tree out in the trash.

I know, right?

The last midsummer/solstice bonfire-in-the-park I went to, they let people write down wishes on pieces of paper and then toss them into the fire. Some folks brought their wishes pre-tied to a former Xmas tree. (No, the fire marshalls did not let them throw the tree onto the fire.)

Was this in Madison? It would have been cool to watch. And it's too bad the marshalls wouldn't let them put the tree onto the fire. Think of all the sparks!

Only half joking. No, make that three-quarters joking. I'd have loved to have seen it, though; that's the quarter that isn't joking. Which means that you should always keep me away from burny stuff.

I know people who decided to keep their tree till the needles fell off. Apparently whatever variety they had didn't drop their needles... it was a beautiful golden colour by the time they got rid of it. I can no longer remember if it was the summer after or the summer after that (iirc it was the latter but my memory is funny with things like this). This is a local couple you know and like btw.

Near me. He married a Canadian Lady, never told her Lies and is still with her after 45 Years.

I know for certain that you know him and like him. I think you have met his wife, maybe at a Ukrainian dinner in Winnipeg.

That's it exactly! And I think it's also the reason why Chicagoans hang on like grim death to all holidays - because not holding onto them means giving in to either bleak winter or godawfully hot summer, without any fun.

Around here, you see wreaths on people's houses -- MANY wreaths! -- until well after Easter. I've seen them as late as Mother's Day.

It's good to know that holiday stretch syndrome is out there everywhere!
