Memo To Self:

When you see commentaries that mention "Moffat" and "Doctor Who" prominently in the description or summary, think seriously about not reading them. The odds are high they will feature an author inveighing against The Moff, with others nodding their heads in agreement; by excising such commentaries from your day, you will lower your blood pressure and quite likely save your computer keyboard and screen from spittle and/or breakage.

(Yeah, yeah, folks have a right to their opinion, and I have f'listers who share that opinion. And sure, enough people hew to the Awful Moff School of Whovian Obsession that I could very well be wrong in my love for his run. I don't fucking care. And I get incredibly tired of swimming through the various One Minute Moff Hates. They make it hard-to-impossible for me to react and interact with thoughtful critiques of Seasons Five through Ten. They're out there, but when I've had to slog through page after page after rant after polemic about Moffat to get to them, I want to stab my eyes with a fork.)

*pets* I know what you mean!! I react to anti-Moffatism like an allergy these days, because it just got so ridiculous and extreme and I still love him forever for Press Gang anyway.

Mind, I hate all that kind of thing so much. Even if I vaguely agree with it, if I stumble over it in a fic, it puts me right off.

I don't think you're a cold person at all, so it's clearly not that! Criticism is fair enough - hatred, especially what seems to be obsessive disproportionate hatred, seems to be a whole other thing.

I've run into fics by writers I generally like, who indulge in their hatred of a character, and it has often driven me off all of their fics, not just the particular story.

For a moment I misread and thought this was going to be a debate about arachnophobic Miss Muffet of the tuffet fame. My bad.

This is why I've stuck to a small circle of self selected people since about 2012. Negative energy is exhausting

I seem to have started automatically assuming people will be ranting on about his evils which, yeah, makes it hard to find actual discussion about his era that interests me.

Yeah, I don't like Moffatt so I just stopped watching for a bit. It's okay, fellow Whovians! You can do that!

That's how I handled a good deal of the Moffat Era. I gave him a full first season before deciding I didn't care for it. I stopped watching Doctor Who, apart from having to see Neil Gaiman's episode "The Doctor's Wife," and only came back when he switched from Matt Smith to Peter Capaldi. I'm looking forward to seeing how Chibnall handles Doctor Who because the seasons of Torchwood where he was the showrunner rather than RTD are my favorites. I ignore the Torchwood seasons RTD ran.

Thanks! I mean I was wary of the whole business of a revival when it began. I didn't enjoy the Ronald Moore Battlestar Galactica at all. I gave Moffat's first season a try, and I figured that when he changed doctors that was a big enough change to merit giving him another try. I loved Peter Capaldi as the Doctor, and I loved Missy, so I'm glad I came back. I'm just not sorry I left for a while.

*Doesn't have an icon of The Doctor here so is going with the Doctor she has.

Capaldi is great! I'd gotten so tired of the revival Doctors getting younger and younger I was excited just seeing his hair before I actually saw him perform. I just wish he'd had more time with Clara. I liked that Doctor&Companion team.

(I adored the original BSG, but then I was 3-4 when it originally aired and mostly watched it in syndication a bit older than that. I gave Moore's BSG 6 episodes, and couldn't take more than that.)

You know, I find that I love all of Who, no matter how bad the writing, the special effects, the women in unreasonable clothing - I love it all. I think I see it as a reality that's being presented to me through someone else's filter. Some filters are more annoying than others, but when you brush the various filters aside, there it is. Shining.

Just found this tab again and - yeeep. I still remember the fairly short Moffat Who discussion I had at Nine Worlds (very queer feminist sff con) where the nice people I was talking to were clearly taking it as read I'd hate him and were rather taken aback by 'he has his problems I suppose but I really love all his female characters, so it's hard for me to discount that.'
