Birthdays. Birthdays and Cats

Monday was ljgeoff 's birthday, and I can't begin to tell you how much she deserves all the birthday wishes. And, frankly, All The Things. 

She's got more energy in her little finger than I've ever had in my entire body. She also has a heart that puts the "His Heart Grew Three Sizes That Day" Grinch to shame. Put simply, she cares; for people, for animals. for strays, for anyone or anything that needs love.  Her intelligence just adds to the package.

Then, when you further add to that her amazing writing talent, bringing excellent fanfic into the world, as well as original fiction of haunting power, you've got a creative dynamo with a cheerful mien, and a fearless ability to leap into abysses of all kinds, either crossing them in one bound, or rebounding from the bottom to climb determinedly to the top.

 He's settled in quite nicely, and Opie is adjusting a little faster than we'd feared he would. We still have to tackle a couple of issues, including some remaining mats, but the vet says his knackering proceeded nicely. He's really lovely, and I'm glad he's with us. (Also, it's weird, but he has absolutely no guard hairs, only the soft under coat, which accounts for the matting propensity. It's the exact opposite of our gingers, who had and have so much top/guard hair that it was and is hard to get to the under coat.)

He's gorgeous - his eyes do tend toward the gold, although I think they'd probably look green if his coat were tabby or ginger. And he is quite the largest cat we've had - and all our cats have been huge.

Extremely floofy. EXTREMELY floofy. I haven't had a floofy cat like this since my childhood, tht being the original Vincent (named so by my mother who thought that cat's white and black markings looked like a doctor's coat. She loved the show "Ben Casey" in which the actor Vince Edwards played Doctor Casey, so hey-presto ... Vincent!) Vincent Point One was a proper Maine Coon type, but even he had some guard hairs, and ended up being rather more silky than floofy.

He is rather majestic, although the image is somewhat injured when he rolls on his back to offer his belleh for rubz.

(And so my Bowie is the opposite of Opie; he has no undercoat (same as my last cat, though his coat was thicker and longer). His brother is plush and other brother was/is practically a Persian fur-wise, so so much for fur types even running in litters.)

Bowie is such a cool name for a cat!

(Actually, Opie's the one with loads of guard hairs and a lot less undercoat, while Vincent is nothing but undercoat.)

Thank you! It was a toss-up between my naming him Prince or (David) Bowie as both died not too long before I got him. He just looked like a Bowie, though, so there it was. :)

Either would have been a great name, but yes, if he looked like a Bowie, there you go!

Yay, Vincent! The Dude abides; I'm so happy that Opie is handling the New Guy well. And I'm so, so happy that Vincent found his people.

Vincent is lying on my desk as I type this. We're going to have to take him to a groomer at least once, to get at the last couple of recalcitrant mats, but the rest of his floofy self is doing just fine.
