It's Like the Chicken Heart, Except With Words

I apparently have no self control. It's now over 8,000 words, 

(What chicken heart, you ask? This one. Which, in the spirit of pending Hallowe'en, I offer you in its original entirety. It's the one that Cosby included in a very funny sketch. I won't, however, put anything by him in any posting of mine.)

Heh - it's a lot more corny than Arch Oboler's other memorable horror piece for "Lights Out," "The Dark," which is so horrifying to me (and so beloved by my Best Beloved) that we've agreed that he'll only tune in to it - it's normally run near Hallowe'en every year on a local old time radio show - every second year. In fact, I defy anyone not to be horrified by both the form and substance of "The Dark."

Oboler was a remarkable radio writer, especially in the horror/terror genres. I'm pleased to say that he, as well as "Lights Out" original writer Wyllis Cooper, were Chicagoans. The show was produced out of Chicago during at least some of its runs.

I am familiar with Lights Out! (I am not encyclopedically versed in old-time radio, but I know a fair amount, which is part of the story of how spatch and I met.) I love that a local radio station of yours runs "The Dark" for Halloween.

We're solid listeners to WDCB, the small all-jazz (or nearly so) station that broadcasts out of a western Chicago suburb. They broadcast "Those Were the Days," a four-hour program of radio shows from the 1930s, 40s and 50s, every Saturday afternoon.

The host, only the second host in the show's 49-year-old history, continues its tradition of interviewing actors and producers of famous radio programs.

Sorry, I stupidly quoted from the Cosby sketch, hence the deleted comment. I had not actually heard the original before now, and it is Something ELSE.

Don't worry; the Cosby sketch is tremendously funny, and in the past I listened to it on many occasions. It's a dreadful shame that he turned out to be the kind of person whose works have become permanently tainted by what he did in his private life.

We must have a dozen family catchphrases based on Cosby routines. Now we have to remember not to use them in front of anyone. It is all snarl-making, but especially what he actually did. Raaaarrrrrr.

Our experience almost exactly. And Raaaaarrrrr is about the only way to respond to the Cosby conglomerate of crimes and misdemeanors.
