A ship you have never liked and probably never will:
Wow. I thought about skipping this, since the type of relationship with which I’m less than enamored is one that a lot of my Who friends like.
But wothehell wotthehell, as Mehitabel once sang …
I’m not a fan of the Tenth Doctor, and I’m therefore extremely uninterested in romantic relationships between him and anyone. That was especially so when it came to the Doctor and Rose Tyler, which definitely puts me in the minority within Modern Who fandom. Blame my love of the Ninth Doctor, and of Christopher Eccleston
It doesn’t mean I haven’t read and enjoyed a few stories about the Tenth Doctor’s platonic relationships; I actually like the friendship he crafted with Donna Noble; but stories that put him into romantic situations just aren’t my cup of tea.
*ducks and runs whilst muttering ‘please don’t hit me, please don’t hit me*
Earlier questions:
1.What's changed about your fandom life in the last 365 days?
2.Your newest fandom.
3.You've got your OTP, you have to throw a third into the mix (from the same fandom), creating an OT3. Who is the OTP, and in your opinion, why would they make a perfect third for them?
4.What are the origins of your pen name/user name?
5.What's a fandom that you wish had a bigger following?
6.What’s the longest you’ve ever been in a fandom? What fandom was it? Not necessarily your oldest fandom, but a fandom that you started and still continue to read/write/create content for in some way:
7.What would make you leave a fandom, or prevent you from getting into it in the first place?
8.Squicks - What are some things that squick you in fandom - not necessarily "icky", though it can be. From anything involving blood, to bad grammar.
9. What's the hardest thing about writing, and why are titles the Worst™?
10. Do you have a fandom you follow - either regularly or casually - with little to no knowledge of canon?
11. Ships that you currently like a lot. (They don’t have to be OTPs because not everyone has OTPs.) Friendships, pairings, threesomes, etc. are allowed.:

Date: Tuesday, 13 July 2021 02:00 am (UTC)Oh, hell yes. I was so glad when Martha told him (politely, of course) to fuck the hell off. As it were.
I've always loved your Eleven-Rory stuff, and you know how much I love Eleven-River - so, you know, two great tastes that taste great together. Heh ....
And I like Tennant as a person; he seems like a really lovely guy. But I couldn't warm to his Ten.

Date: Tuesday, 13 July 2021 04:24 am (UTC)Aww, you are too kind. My Eleven/Rory was a mess (though I had fun with Amy/Eleven/Rory), but it was my ship. And you rather helped bring me around to Eleven/River, as did
Right? Ten was...Five unrestrained and confused. I liked Five a bit, but not as much as I loved the other Doctors. And Tennant is awesome as an actor. But his Doctor was not for me. And oh boy, the range of people who lose their minds over that concept!

Date: Wednesday, 14 July 2021 01:02 am (UTC)As for Martha; hell, I've thought about an AU where she managed to have a good run with Nine (and I say this as a Rose fan). I think they would have been a good duo, a la Ten and Donna.
As for people losing their minds over "he's not my cuppa"? Yeah. Stans gonna stan, though.

Yeah...I get it, though. But...yeah.

Date: Tuesday, 13 July 2021 02:47 am (UTC)Like DT as The Doctor; grew on me after a while, but he always seemed like David Tennant and not The Doctor ~ until I saw the episodes with River Song in some sort of order ie. AFTER I'd seen her with Matt Smith's Doctor.
Looking back I think I think Christopher Eccleston seems less like The Doctor than he did when the new show started airing. Only one I like less is Paul McGann, and I have still not watched the one(s) with John Hurt. Actually before Matt Smith came along the only 'new' Doctor that seemed like the character was Richard E. Grant; very dark version of Colin Baker/Tom Baker for me.
I came to like Peter Capaldi only when his run was coming to an end; exactly like Peter Davison actually, who I only 'got' as The Doctor in his last story. Jodie Whittaker is fantastic as The Doctor, but the stories; apart from the first two; rather akin to Sylvester McCoy's run, have been 'meh!' or just bad.
Almost as if the BBC was following the same game plan, as with McCoy of killing off the show by turning fans away. They never learn.
I'd love it so much if they had a few stories with The Doctor and her wifey; River Song together; even if that messes with canon/the timeline ~ both concepts that really have no place on Doctor Who; which has messed around with both; almost from the start, even than Star Trek did.
I certainly plan to have River in any stories I do write with my female Doctor.

Date: Wednesday, 14 July 2021 01:13 am (UTC)Absolutely! Jodie is absolutely fantastic, and I love her, despite some of the bad writing.
One of the things I've come to understand and love about Who is that there are enough Doctors for everyone. I love Nine, but I know lots of people whose opinions I respect who don't. I just can't warm to Ten, and I fell for Eleven, and then even harder for Twelve, who has bid fair to become My Doctor, possibly because his apparent age and my real age are similar. Also, the hair! The eyebrows! The hidden gentleness behind the snarky and deliberate meanness!
Ah, I do tend to go on about these things.

Date: Wednesday, 14 July 2021 01:06 am (UTC)The power imbalance needs to be addressed if one is going to attempt any kind of intimate relationship. And I say that as a dedicated Nine/Rose/Jack shipper. Certainly, I felt I had to address it in a number of the stories I wrote.

Date: Tuesday, 13 July 2021 05:31 pm (UTC)So, just to add my two cents, after a break of many many months we (the 15 y.o. & I) carried on with our Doctor Who (re)watch. We had stalled entirely after The Satan Pit and last night I asked if she'd like to watch more. She wasn't particularly enthusiastic, so I said that we didn't have to watch Ten/Rose, we could just skip ahead. And then mentioned that the Christmas Special had Donna. Since Donna is awesome, she agreed, and we watched The Runaway Bride, which means that I am now full of Donna feels.
Ten is a funny one for me. I watched Nine (my first exposure to Doctor Who) and liked him. Then came Ten, and since I have a liking for broken heroes being angsty, that was not a bad thing. (Although I never shipped Ten/Rose, liked Martha, immediately fell for Doctor/Master and adored Donna.) ANYWAY. Then Eleven came along it was almost a literal epiphany of 'Oh, so THIS is what the Doctor is supposed to be like'. (I even wrote a post!) So yeah, you're not alone. <3

Interestingly (or not), I found Eccleston's Nine so much more beautifully broken than I found Ten. I think that was part of the reason I mourned his early departure, because there was so much depth to what I saw in him, especially in his eyes ... those absolutely mesmerizing ice-blue eyes ... but I digress.
So we both are attracted to beautiful and broken; we just find it in different iterations of the Doctor. (It's one of the reasons I love Twelve so very much as well.)
