Frankenstein Meme, Day 22

Your rarest fandoms.

This one’s really easy. I think that “The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the Eighth Dimension” would be the rarest. I consider it a fandom since I wrote a fic involving two of its central characters, and because I adore the movie and Earl Mac Rauch’s book (he also wrote the movie’s screenplay.) I’m pretty sure there are at least one or two communities out there of fellow Banzai lovers, but they’re certainly rare themselves. Just remember: Don’t be mean, because no matter where you go, there you are. Why is the watermelon there? They’ll tell you later ….

(I know it says fandom(s), but I think I'll stick with one.)

I was even on a fan club mailing list and had stuff mailed to me from/by the studio. It's been so long, I don't recall what everything was (and I sure didn't read it all before I lost track of it). Papers published by various characters? I'm not sure. I still have my official headband, though. I think.

(Bob used to have a headband, too, and I still have a jacket patch that was never sewn onto a jacket. And I think ... a button?)

Coincidentally, I've just been gifted a DVD copy of that movie by a friend from one of my computer user groups! It was a fun movie, and I enjoyed a few of the comic books that got published by Moonstone back when they had the rights, too.

What a great gift to get! Somewhere in our files of videos, we have a raw version of the movie, with about 10 extra minutes of plot; the 10 extra minutes show mostly green screen, but we cherish it anyhow, not only because a friend with connections got it for us, but because it's the closest we'll ever get to thee rumored much, much longer original movie.

I'd forgotten that there were comic books; it's such a shame that a sequel was never made. I mean, Vincent Canby of the NY Times liked BBat8D, for heaven's sake!
