I'd suspended our effort to request permanent residency for Bob. It was easy to live in limbo because neither of us wants to move. But now? It's back to work on the application.

There are so many aspects of this that are absolutely illegal in American law that we don't even have to take note of international law abrogation - but you're right; there's also a plethora of international laws that have been broken.

That Man has arrogated the rights of Venezuela as a sovereign country. No justification at all. Maduro is a dictator, and he didn't win the last election, but that does not give any other country the right to kidnap him.

It's all about the oil.

Part of the stupidity that keeps recurring to me is, yes, since it's not like we fought a ground war for three years to the capitol of a sovereign nation with whom we were at approved and declared war, how does this behavior not kick the door down for similar attempts on the head of this state? It feels like an own goal. When I heard the news, I didn't even assume there was as much real-world motivation as oil, I thought it was just revanchist dick-swingery with the necessary component of trying too hard. Russia has no excuse for the invasion of Ukraine and I wish the sunflowers many more bones to cover, but the two countries are at least proximate.

Yep, it's the oil - and his desperation over the unending Epstein file scandal. In fact, BB and I have talked about how rushed this might have been, in his panicked effort to take peoples' eyes off that particular ball. I have no doubt that there have been plans in place for that sort of thing, probably for years, since this country's CIA, NSA, and the various other fascist or fascist-adjacent alphabet soups have had that bad habit for even longer. But normal administrations have left them up on the shelf, gathering dust.

When you have That Man and Hegseth at the military wheel, and Miller pushing from behind, I'm not surprised someone was tasked with going into the closet with a stepladder and bringing this particular folder down for use, fast.

Oil+Epstein panic+Miller's "I hate everything with more melanin than I have" MO=what we've got. And as usual, every other first world nation, (including Canada, I'm sorry to say) are either staying silent or using weasel words to try to say "Hey, this is bad, but I can't say it out loud."

Also, I wish to god every politician and analyst and Substack bloviator on our side would stop saying "BuT It'S iLleGaL!!1!"

Of course it is. Haven't you morons been listening or watching for the past year? We've got audio tape of people like Miller and Emil Bove saying straight out "Fuck the courts."
