Weird Thursday? No, not completely. But close.
      I covered the last village meeting on my old beat tonight; was happy to see there was a small amount of consternation amongst the folks there when I bid my goodbyes. Always leave 'em wanting more.
     Covering the meeting was practically the only thing I got done today. And I had hoped I'd get all sorts of work-related things done. Nope. Not a chance. My mind was all sorts of elsewhere, and it didn't leave a forwarding address. Tomorrow is going to have to be a whole hell of a lot better, professionally speaking.
    On the other hand, I did get to see the first Burn Notice of the season this evening. And a  very good piece of summer entertainment it was, too. Anything with Bruce Campbell as a sidekick has to kick ass, and does.
     Also, I made an excellent egg salad: a small shallot, finely chopped cucumber, and curry powder.
     Well, I like it.

I have never tried celery nor curry powder in egg salad. I will keep the curry in mind. I am not fond of crunchy things in my egg salad as my first thought is that some eggshell must be in it.

Whereas I grew up on my Nana's egg salad which had lots of crunchy celery in it, and feel vaguely lost without it. I had no celery, hence the cucumber, which crunches satisfactorily.

I watched The Listener and Royal Pain last night and think both deserve another watch.

I didn't watch The Listener, but Royal Pains did intrigue me, even as I recognized a lot of the building blocks: fish out of water, feckless relative, money-grubbing but good-hearted associate, lonely teen, mysterious quasi-deux ex machina type etc.

The two things that struck me with The Listener were that he's way too close to letting people know he can hear things and in the opening, instead of showing us his ears, they keep showing us his pretty blue eyes.

I thoroughly enjoyed Royal Pains. But mostly I was just super proud of myself for remembering that Burn Notice started and watching it as it aired for a change!

Yeah, I'm a consistent show-forgetter myself. I'd been reminded it was coming up by the motivator thread, believe it or not! What did you think of the first episode of Burn Notice this year?

I liked it. I think it's going to be a nice mini-reboot of the series. One of the things I like best about this show is that you don't have to see every episode to keep on top of the loose story arc.

Yeah, and yet it has enough of a story arc to keep me interested in coming back, even if I've missed a couple.

I saw the beginning of Burn Notice (I didn't realize Royal Pains was 1:15 so I had to tape a later end) and still didn't like it. It's the main character who puts me off.

Oddly enough, I find Michael's character quite riveting. I may just be a sucker for the very clear and focused cool intensity, but I can't look away; and his voice-over hints at the warmth underneath that clear and focused feel.

The voice-over is part of what I don't like. It feels self-centered to me.

Whereas I think of it as a wry tutorial on espionage, one which the character doesn't quite believe in anymore, but which has enough credible information in it to be useful.
