Do you remember your first OTP? Who was in it?

Oh, my. That would be the Ninth Doctor, Rose Tyler and Capt. Jack Harkness. Yes, my first OTP was an OT3.

Another early OTP was probably Laura Roslin and Bill Adama, because they are both awesome, ruthless, brave, brilliant, and unexpectedly gentle and vulnerable. Karl “Helo” Agathon and Sharon “Athena” Agathon, too, are a favorite couple, because of everything they went through to keep their love, and their daughter, alive. But those two BSG relationships are less OTPs than TPs, I guess.

I suppose another caveat in my answer to this question is that I might have had some OTPs, or at least TPs, in my book reading — for example, Aral and Cordelia from the Vorkosiverse, (although I fell for them after I discovered online fandom, so that's not a first)  or Corwin-Deirdre in Zelazny’s Amber series; hush, I know they’re siblings, or half siblings. It’s Amber, and they can do what they want.

I can’t remember any others. I might, if I trotted off to my bookshelves, but if I can’t easily remember them, then I don’t think they fit the bill.

Heh - I love the Amber series, probably because I love the glints of real love, bravery, and duty and generosity that begin to show in these powerful, initially totally selfish demigods. Also, they're smart-mouthed and brilliant, which I also love. I have a drawing I bought at a con ages ago, of Corwin emerging from a Shadow. It's on our living wall right now.

My best friend in grade school insisted I read the Corwin Cycle, and I didn't understand why at first because of that "initially totally selfish," but I stuck with it and came to really appreciate them. He told me not to read the Merlin Cycle because he figured I'd find them totally confusing. I've never read them so not sure if he was right. It's been ages since I read the Corwin Cycle, but I have vague memories of having liked Benedict, Corwin, Fiona, and Flora.

I've read the Merlin Cycle; it's not quite as high quality as the first cycle, but it doesn't suck horribly. Corwin, Benedict, Deirdre, Fiona, Gerard and Random were the princes and princesses that I liked the most, and as a baby SFF fan, I actually made a (terrible) costume, bought a decent wig, and hall-costumed as Fiona. I should have done her in purple, but I didn't.

Willow & Tara; WillTara (back when BtVS was at it's height, nobody I knew called it tillow); then the musical episode and; not straightaway, then everything changed.

Now, it's Faith & Tara and, even then, I have a major series of stories where Faith is with Xander and Tara is dead as per canon. In the Faith/Tara stories, Willow is not around; in that one Buffy is polyamorous.

In between The Ponds became as important to me as WillTara used to be, and I discovered Adam & Becky; Zoe & Rasha and Fiona & Imogen (there is a male couple on Degrassi I could see myself writing, but I don't actually like either character that much; that said the two actors really created what felt like a real relationship, so I could see stories coming from that).

I have also started writing stories in a world which diverges (nearly wrote divulges there ;-) ) from canon in the opening episode of BtVS.

The pull and power of relationships, and how they hit our hearts and minds is often truly astonishing. When we try to figure out what it is that attracts us to them, sometimes we can't consciously tease out the reason - largely because it's often reasons, rather than one reason. It's fascinating, and I'm sure that better thinkers than I am have tried to figure it out, or have developed theories about it.

What was it, for instance, that attracted you first to Willow & Tara, and then to Faith and Tara? I know relatively little about the Buffyverse, but I do know that Faith was a conflicted and complex character.
